Seventeenth Month of Luna Sent

When Miss Moon enters her seventeenth month on Planet Earth, she adds a few means of transportation to her repertoire, thanks to papa. She gets to go for a ride while sitting towards the front of his bicycle (row above). And she gets to swing between his kitchen and dining area (left and right). Though Esther-Mirjam is a little scared about these changes at first, Luna much enjoys them right away.
For Easter, Luna gets to eat a hard-boiled egg all by herself (far left), while enjoying the company of Hans, Lotte, Ruben, Aafke, Lenneke, and Esther-Mirjam (middle left). Of course, the latter is busy taking the picture. Sadly, Sanne could not join them because she had a headache. Hopefully the family will be complete during the next holiday celebration.
Easter Monday is an official holiday in the Netherlands. Hans and Esther-Mirjam take advantage of this opportunity to visit Bronkhorst, the smallest city in the country. Papa and Luna enjoy listening to a Dickens reading (left), while mama and Luna pose in front of a windmill, which you can see if you look carefully (right).
After having passed her Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English exam, Esther-Mirjam receives her certificate during an afternoon tea held in Jachtslot Mook and organized by Aunt Michelle (middle right). Luna gets to come along, though does not drink tea, but enjoys her juice instead (far right).
Luna is making progress towards walking by herself, for she is now able (and, perhaps more importantly, willing) to walk while holding on to only one of Esther-Mirjam's hands (top left). Here she is walking towards a children's animal farm, where she and Hans visit with lots of piglets (bottom left). Luna puts her newly acquired gentle petting skills into practice when hanging out with the baby goats and little sheep (top right and bottom right).
Luna gets to fly for a fourth time in her young life, when she accompanies her mom to Porto for a conference. Unfortunately, Hans gets sick at the airport and is unable to join them (below left). Fortunately, not as many supplies are needed now that our Moon Child is a toddler (below middle). She gets to give the baby seat that she used briefly in Bremen another try in Porto (below right).
While in Porto, Luna visits all the hot spots, including the market of Bolhao (left), where you can buy almost anything, and the Cathedral (right) as well as the surrounding monuments from the Renaissance era, with her mom carrying the stroller up and down quite a few stairs, while only once getting help, from an older Portuguese woman!
Luna sleeps through her visit to the Riverside quarter of Ribeira and its striking bridge (left), which is the first great piece of work by Gustavo Eiffel. During her strolls through town, Luna gets to enjoy some magnificent views (right).
After all the sight-seeing, Luna is very sleepy, but does not feel like sleeping because she enjoys keeping her mom company in the hotel room. She shares some sweet smiles (below left), tries to entertain her mom with funny faces (below middle), and finally can barely stay awake for much longer (below right).
Luna enjoys exploring the hotel room in general and the bathroom in particular. Only after she has checked out the toilet paper (left) and bidet (below), is she willing to give the bath tub a try (right).
After several exhausting days in Porto, Luna is happy to be able to go home again. The only trouble is that she has to fly via Lisbon to Amsterdam.
Fortunately, Luna continues to be a real trooper about traveling. She loves the attention she gets from her fellow travelers.
Luna gets to celebrate no fewer than two birthdays on May 6, with Ome Geert (below left) and Tante Daniëlle (below right). When she has a dirty diaper, innocent strangers walking by an Amsterdam cafe get to enjoy some potent odors (below middle).
When Luna and papa visit yet another children's animal farm, they have more fun on the adjacent play ground. That is, Hans seems to enjoy it more than our Moon Child! The two go on a swing (top left) and try the slide (top middle). Luna is happy to show everybody that she can stand without holding on to anything (top right), though walking continues to scare her somewhat. The slide is clearly Luna's favorite (left and right). She also goes on a swing by herself (below left) and poses with papa (below right). After all this fun, the two are eager for some ice cream (below middle). Also note the new bike helmet that is keeping Luna as safe as possible while visiting people and places by bike.

Hip, Hip, Hurray! Seventeen months old!

When celebrating her seventeenth Month Day, Luna tries to convince everybody that she can read (left). Her cheeky smile gives away the secret that she is just pretending (right). It also shows that more and more teeth are making their (sometimes painful) way into her little mouth. The latter is further busy trying to repeat everything that Luna's little ears hear. Her favorite words are "mama" and "papa," of course.
